I always have the hardest time painting my own pets. Is it because I know them so well that I feel I can't get a good likeness? Or is it because they run and hide every time the camera comes out? With this painting, I feel the only thing I captured well is his disdainful "oh the things I have to put up with around here" pained look. This is Beck, the 10-year-old Golden Retriever who, after 3 years with us, has finally relaxed enough to go explore every corner of his yard and sniff noses through the fence with the dogs next door.
Today is my first day off since the Thanksgiving holiday. I don't know whether to sleep or paint. Maybe both!
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I did have time to do a few paintings. But didn't have time to post them. This was a still life I very much enjoyed painting, and, of course, eating. I couldn't just throw it out, you know.
I'm not sure why I like this little guy, but I do. I had lots of painting time over the Thanksgiving holiday but have been working so much since then, that I haven't even had time to post what I did. Looks like I won't have much painting time in the next couple of weeks, so I'll be able to space these out. It somehow seemed appropriate to lead with this one.
