The real voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes. - Marcel Proust

In Mourning

The Atlanta Thrashers are leaving Atlanta. Not a big deal to most people, but it is to hockey fans like me.  I painted this a few years ago for my husband when we were going through our annual summer hockey withdrawal. I guess we should get used to that feeling.

Lots o' Landscapes

Haven't posted for a while, but I have been busy painting. I've stolen an hour here and there over the last 2 weeks to do some landscape quick studies.

In posting these, I realize now there seems to be a path in most of them. Hmm, wonder what the artist psychiatrists would say......

Meadow Trail

Another painting from imagination -- as you can see, it's a varied landscape. But it is based on what I know and see every day around me. This is very Georgia, early summer -- still green everywhere, but the beginnings of haze obscuring distant trees.  As I was painting the trail, I imagined running through this meadow on a warm morning in May.

Stella d'oro, that is. As in Lily. Not the cookie. Or the line made famous by the magnificent Marlon.

Bazooka Joe Memories

Ok, I know this painting is not of Bazooka Joe or Bazooka bubblegum. This is all I had access to at the time I was seized with a need to paint. However, it did remind me of all the Bazooka gum I chewed as a kid. I was definitely a Bazooka girl. I loved that stuff. But you know what? I think I loved the silly comics just as much as the bubblegum. And the fortunes may have something to do with my love of puns. In fact, Bazooka probably explains a lot more about me than I should make public!

Hannah Banana

Meet Hannah, nicknamed Hannah Banana.  The entire time I was painting her, I had a certain song going through my head.  It .... must.... come ..... out.  Must .... resist.....

Mountain Stream

I apologize for the poor photo. I am having photo card reader issues and had to resort to a point-and-shoot for photos of my paintings. This is a small lunch-time painting done from my imagination.

One Coneflower, No Butterfly

I love painting coneflowers. I've done it many times. I had the urge to paint another one but wanted to do something a little different than my previous paintings. I don't know if you've noticed but there are many, many paintings of coneflowers out there, and I think half of them include a pretty little butterfly. (Seriously, do a Google Image search on "coneflower oil paintings" and count the butterflies.) Now, I have nothing at all against butterflies. But trust me, faithful blog readers, I would not subject you to yet another coneflower with butterfly painting.
