The real voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes. - Marcel Proust

Be the Tree

I've been MIA due to too much work, not enough painting!  I did manage to get a couple of tree value studies in this week. I was concentrating on avoiding "lollipop-itis", wherein the sufferer manages to make every type of tree look like a lollipop.

This is some type of oak, from a photo. I was experimenting with keeping the shapes big.
This is a palette knife painting of a specific tree near my office. I don't know the type, but it's some type of ornamental tree with a distinct shape.

Same tree, different day, done with brushes. I think I like the palette knife version better. This one looks a bit like a spider. Very Halloweenish.

  1. Thanks, M.A.! Don't you hate it when there are too few hours in the day to do what you need to do plus what you want to do?
